Mooresville Families & English Labs, a Natural Fit

Mooresville's combination of lake access, open yards, and close-knit neighborhoods makes it one of the best places in the Charlotte metro to own a dog, and English Labradors thrive in exactly that environment. They love the water, they love space to roam, and they love family life.

At Patton Premier Labradors, we breed English Labradors specifically for families. Our dogs are calm, trainable, and social, the kind of dog that fits into your household routine as naturally as a piece of furniture, but far more entertaining. We plan every litter carefully, health-test every breeding dog, and stay involved with our families long after the puppy goes home.

We're located in Charlotte, a quick trip down I-77 from Mooresville, and we welcome serious buyers to come meet us and see how our puppies are raised before committing.

About the Breed

English vs. American Labrador, What's the Difference?

Most families don't realize there are two distinct types of Labrador Retriever, the English (bench) type and the American (field) type. Patton Premier Labradors raises exclusively English Labs, which are prized for their calmer energy, heavier build, and exceptional family temperament.

I

Built for Family Life

English Labs were developed for the show ring, emphasizing structure, temperament, and breed standard over hunting drive. The result is a dog that is lower-energy at rest, more patient with children, and easier to settle in a family home.

II

The Classic Lab Look

The "blocky head, big chest, thick tail" Lab you see in commercials? That's an English Lab. Our dogs carry the heavy, broad-skulled conformation that defines the type, a look that has made the Labrador the most popular breed in America for decades.

III

Perfect for Lake Norman Living

Labradors were bred as water dogs. English Labs retain a strong love of swimming, ideal for lake access, dock time, and paddleboard companions. They are active enough for outdoor adventures but calm enough to settle in the evening.

Our Standards

What We Do Before Every Litter

Responsible breeding starts well before the litter is born. Here's what every Patton Premier Labradors puppy is backed by.

OFA Hip & Elbow Testing

Both parents are OFA tested before breeding. Hip and elbow dysplasia are the most common health issues in Labs, we test to minimize your risk.

OFA Eye & Heart Clearances

In addition to orthopedic testing, every breeding dog is cleared for hereditary eye conditions and cardiac disease by certified specialists.

AKC Champion Bloodlines

We select sires and dams from proven champion lines. Documented pedigrees available for every puppy placed.

Home-Raised & Socialized

Every litter is raised in our home with children, daily routines, and varied sounds and surfaces, the foundation for a confident, well-adjusted dog.

Questions & Answers

FAQ for Mooresville Families

How far is your kennel from Mooresville?
We're in Charlotte, roughly a 30-minute drive from Mooresville via I-77 South. We're happy to share our exact location once we've connected and discussed your interest in a puppy.
Do English Labs do well on the lake?
Absolutely. Labradors were originally bred as water-retrieving dogs, and English Labs retain that love of water. Most take to swimming naturally and make excellent lake companions, though we recommend waiting until 6 months or so before introducing vigorous swimming.
Do you offer shipping or delivery to Mooresville?
We do not ship puppies. All pickups are in person at our Charlotte location. Given how close Mooresville is, this is usually very easy to arrange.
What's included with the health guarantee?
Every puppy carries a written 1-year genetic health guarantee covering life-threatening congenital defects. To activate it, a licensed vet must examine your puppy within 72 hours of pickup and a copy of that exam must be sent to us. Remedy is a replacement puppy of equal value.
What food should I feed my English Lab puppy?
We send every puppy home with a 6 lb bag of Purina Pro Plan Puppy. We recommend continuing on that food for the first several months to avoid stomach upset from a sudden diet change. If you'd like to switch later, do it gradually over 7–10 days.
